SBS Torch On

SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing, commonly known as “torch on roofing” was developed in France in the late 1960’s to improve bitumen’s waterproofing characteristics by adding rubber (SBS) to the bitumen and has been the choice of the low slope commercial roofing industry for over 50 years. A SBS blend is more elastic than bitumen. The blend performs better when a roof is exposed to significant increases or decreases in ambient temperature over short periods in time.

In Canada, low-slope roofs are primarily covered with SBS-modified bitumen membranes. Part of the reason is SBS-modified bitumen systems’ ability to stand up to the continental climate of Canada that leads to winter temperatures between -20 and -40 degrees Celsius and the diverse climate changes in the Southern Alberta region. The heat of a torch or hot asphalt is used to fuse layers of SBS membranes together creating the roof system. Alternatively, adhesives or more expensive self-adhered membranes are used to adhere the layers together.

Elevated Exteriors is proud to be an Approved Applicator for industry leading SBS manufacturers. Our workers undergo on-going training and skill development to ensure that each roof is installed to manufactures specifications.

EPDM

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer) are a single-ply rubber roofing membrane has been an appealing choice of the low-slope commercial roofing industry for over 40 years. EPDM roofs are strong, as long as they are properly seamed and maintained, the roofs have an average life of 20 to 25 years.

Additionally, the sheets of EPDM tend to be large which means they have fewer seams to join. This often lessens the chances of seepage over time. EPDM systems are the number one roofing choice of architects, roof consultants and contractors for both new construction and replacement roofing projects according to market surveys from Building Design and Construction, and Roofing/Siding/Insulation magazines, and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).

Standing Seam Metal

Standing Seam Metal is primarily manufactured from recycled steel and aluminum, which themselves can be recycled at the end of their life, metal roofing is environmentally friendly by making excellent use of what otherwise would be scrap metal, buried in a junkyard somewhere to pollute the environment for hundreds of years.

By its very nature, metal is impenetrable to the elements, lasts a very long time, and reflects most of the sunlight off of your roof, rather then heating up and absorbing it into the building. This leaves you with lighter energy bills, and who doesn’t want that?
